Our mission is to coordinate and support the congregation in its efforts to advocate, educate, organize, serve and witness for peace and social justice; to establish our church as a beacon for social action in our community. As Unitarian Universalists, we covenant to work for a democratic, peaceful, equitable and earth-friendly world. The Peace and Social Action Program is committed to empowering church members to keep this covenant.
The PASA committee currently meets one Sunday each month at 9 am. Projects are ongoing. Let us know if you are interested in our work.
We support the work of UUSC, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and intend to engage in several UUSC projects this year. See their website at www.uusc.org for more information. We support the weekly Vigils for Peace. In Ellsworth, we vigil at the Bridge every Sunday from noon to 1 pm. This vigil has been ongoing since some months before the War in Iraq began. Vigils are held throughout Maine every week. You are welcome to stand with us for any amount of time. There are usually plenty of signs so just bring yourself.
